Red Oak Origin:
Red Oak can be found in Northeastern United States and Southeastern Canada.
Workability:
Red Oak lumber is very porous and heavy. Seasoning must be done carefully to avoid major checking and warping. It is a good option to use when steam-bending. It glues, stains, and finishes well.
Uses:Live edge Red Oak wood slabs are often used for table, bar, and counter tops. The hardness and wearing qualities of Red Oak lumber have made it popular for flooring. It is also popular in furniture making, veneer, millwork, cabinetry, and interior trim.
Color:Live edge Red Oak wood slabs have a light to medium brown heartwood with a red hue and a cream to light brown sapwood. The sapwood is usually very narrow and not clearly defined from the heartwood.
Janka Hardness:1220 (medium-hard)
Decay and Weather Resistance:Red Oak does not have the same level of decay and rot resistance as White Oak. It will stain when in contact with water and it is rated low for insect resistance.
