DESCRIPTION – Douglas-Fir is a very fast growing tree found in the western part of North America extending from British Columbia all the way to Texas. The heart wood is yellowish to a light reddish brown color.
PROPERTIES- Douglas-Fir has the highest strength to weight ratio of any other North American wood and has a high bending strength. It dries well and rapidly with very little defect. Once the wood is dry, it is a very stable wood. Easy to work with but may blunt hand tools. It also nails, glues and finishes well.
USES - Since it is such a strong wood, Douglas-Fir is used extensively in building and construction. It is also used for making flooring, furniture, millwork, doors and boats.
