Origin: Basswood is found in northern United States.
Color: Basswood is creamy white to light brown in color. The sapwood and heartwood is not clearly defined.
Janka Hardness: 410 (soft) Slightly harder than Pine.
Decay and Weather Resistance: Decay resistance is low.
Workability: It is very easy to work with since it is a soft and lightweight species of wood. It glues and finishes well, but is not found to hold nails well.
Uses: Basswood is a good choice when you want a light colored wood that is also lightweight. Since it is so easy to work with it is also an ideal wood for hand carving
