Our Douglas-Fir Inventory
We have Douglas-Fir slabs in stock online in sizes that usually range:
- Up to 41" wide
- Up to 18' long
- Up to 3" thick
Douglas Fir Origin:
Douglas-Fir is a very fast growing tree found in the western part of North America extending from British Columbia all the way to Texas.
Workability:
Douglas-Fir has the highest strength to weight ratio of any other North American wood and has a high bending strength. It dries well and rapidly with very little defects. Once the wood is dry it is very stable. It is easy to work with, but may blunt hand tools. It nails, glues and finishes well.
Uses:Since it is such a strong wood, Douglas-Fir is used extensively in building and construction. It is also used for making flooring, furniture, millwork, doors and boats.
Color:Color can vary depending on age and location of the tree. The heartwood is usually a light brown with red or yellow hues and darker rings.
Janka Hardness:620 (soft)
Decay and Weather Resistance:The heartwood is moderately durable in regard to decay, but is susceptible to insect attack.
